There are many factors on what a French Bulldog pup may cost you today. As a breeder in Tampa Bay for past 16+ years, I have been asked sooo many times from potential puppy homes to those having a French Bulldog either considering or attempting to become a breeder with their first litter. Looking online in 2022, I’ve seen “pros” of something telling you the price should be from 2000 to 3000. But giving no reason for the difference in price or with any qualifications as to how the person writing article knows such info. Personally, I would think a French Bulldog for those prices come with label buyer beware. Obviously things like direct costs affect the prices. #1 such as c sections, stud fees, vet costs, food, health certificate & registration like akc. #2 Bloodline is an extremely important value on a pup. Someone just starting to breed their bloodline should do a ton of testing because they don’t have any history knowledge. Healthy bloodline allows for breeder to be in business for more than the typical 2 years or less common amongst most French Bulldog breeders having to go out of business cause they aren’t prepared to stand behind their sales as state of Fl requires them for a healthy pup. #3 Costs of doing business over the long term. Things happen. You can do everything right and maybe something happens to the litter or pup. Nowadays, theft is a big deal. People want to not only see your pups but want one without paying. It happens. What can go wrong eventually finds its way into a breeders kennel no matter how careful and skilled they are. #4 Advertisement/ costs of doing business as a kennel. Site fees & advertising/ SEO/ costs of sales.Traditionally, breeders competed with puppymills, USDA certified big breeders selling to the pet stores. Nowadays a breeder is competing with conglomerate of backyard breeders disguised as a single site/ kennel name;thereby, alluding USDA (puppy mills) & private breeder/ kennels local state laws (Animal Control). You should know and see all breeder names on site/ kennel name. Conglomerate’s pup costs aren’t cheap although most participating aren’t sharing equally in funds. Guessing it’s whoever owns site is doing the best in equity :-).
Let’s sum it up. Things that make prices range for the French bulldog.
#1. Costs of everything from raising and breeding the bitch to actually having a healthy litter at least 8 weeks old ready for a new home. Microchip, supplies, vet, transportation., paperwork & food are just a few of the costs.
#2 Bloodline cost of actually getting breeding rights of an established or establishing healthy dog & or bitch litter’s health history. For the established breeder, keeping and maintaining a healthy bloodline is costly. This I know to well. Color, sex, adding new blood into your bloodline, while maintaining health & quality. Breeding for health means not breeding only for color that fetches the best price. Fad colors, wow dangerous health concerns. Sire & dams with same color such as cream ends up bleaching out & extremely bad for skin. Brindle blood I have found to be mandatory in bloodline to keep healthy, but traditionally the least expensive pups. But a factor necessary in keeping healthy.. Breeding standards that actually can effect health like obesity, smushed in flat faces are two I see frequently. Without dip in nose, it’s horrible for breathing. Obesity, we all know what to much fat does to a body.
#3 Costs of doing good business over time equals to profit & loss from year to year. French Bulldog puppies are not, repeat not easy to breed & what can go wrong will. Theft, loss of life (extremely hard mentally), supply & demand, worlds impact on kennels abilities (inflation), competing with kennels not established long enough to have had any losses yet.
#4 Knowing who or what the kennel’s breeders are, their legitimacy, their ethics and their invested participation is as important as the French bulldog itself. Will determine if price you pay is for the quality of the dog & breeder ethics vs advertisement and big business/ corporate cost of doing business. Puppy mills aren’t rolling in the money. They sell on number of pups produced & replacement of said pup. Big business “pet stores” & conglomerates are making the money because they are producing marketing abilities while escaping ethical breeding practices.
This is my Gwendolyn’s opinion in summing everything up in the prices between different French Bulldog pups. quality of pup, ethics of breeder and ability and desire to find good quality homes with a family that both pup & new owners flourish from the addition, supply and demand are all factors that make pups cost or worth different prices. Do your homework on the bloodline and breeder! A breeders reputation can make all the difference.
